Technical Support
MCS provides training for Washington DC area agencies and non-profits on compliance with federal language access regulations. An integral part of the training for interpreters is an understanding of cultural diversity whereby participants are encouraged to approach their role with cultural objectivity and awareness regarding verbal and non-verbal communication. MCS's Language Services Program provides technical support to clients and collaborators in three areas. These services include:
- Language Proficiency Assessment: This service is for clients who need to assess the language proficiency of potential applicants or current employees. MCS's Language Proficiency Assessment Test is available in multiple languages. Clients taking the assessment are interviewed by phone in the subject language. They are also tested orally and are required to take a written test. Through these tests, MCS can assess a client's vocabulary, grammar, and listening comprehension.
- Cultural Competency Training: MCS trainers tailor the workshop units dedicated to Cultural Competency according to the needs of MCS clients and the ethnographic make-up of the group in training.
- How to work with interpreters: In today's global and complex world, more and more people are connected in unprecedented ways, and the need for interpretation services is growing exponentially. MCS is aware of the urgent need to learn more about how to work and interact with interpreters in meetings, conferences, mediation sessions, administrative hearings, and other events.
