Advancing Progressive Language Access Laws
MCS contributed to create one of the most
progressive language access laws in the United
States. MCS's role in the coalition is to
advocate for the rights of individuals to
access services without facing language
barriers. MCS strives to ensure that
the language rights of the DC community are not
violated and to raise awareness about these
rights.
Through the Language Access Coalition, MCS:
- Participates in monthly meetings
- Organizes and prepares public witnesses for government oversight hearings
- Provides technical assistance with expertise on the DC Language Access Act -- its regulations and amendments -- in collaboration with the Office of Human Rights
- Participates in hearings and discussions of language access plans developed by DC government and community agencies
In addition, MCS acts as an ambassador and advocate in the WMATA language access implementation meetings.
