MCS Interpreter Addresses Parents and Youth In Texas (2009)
Region 19 of the Migrant Education Program in El Paso, Texas, invited MCS interpreter Roland Roebuck, to conduct a series of parent and student educational workshops. On March 27th, Roebuck addressed over one hundred parents of mostly Mexican heritage working in the agricultural sector and who have children in the local school system. Mr. Roebuck provided insightful expertise in the areas of parental school engagement, understanding school expectations, effective parental collaboration models and how to create a rich learning environment for their children.
On March 28th, Roland Roebuck addressed the 18th Annual Migrant Student Leadership Conference/Career Day as the key note speaker for the event addressing more than 200 High School students. Roebuck focused his comments on the development of leadership skills, understanding the college application process, finding funding for college, neutralizing negative peer pressure, the management of intra-family relations, effective decision making, how to avoid at-risk behavior and effective personal planning.

achievements" Roebuck stated. While
Latino parents in the DC metropolitan area
contend with inner city school problems, both
parents in
Student evaluations of Roebuck's key note address revealed his capacity to capture their attention and inspire youth to pursue educational achievements. The Region 19 has invited Roebuck to return and address local high school graduates in the region.
MCS is proud of the excellent work graduates of its Interpreter Training are engaged in from various professional fields.
