Program Involvement

DC PIRC

MCS is the lead agency for the Washington DC Parent Information Resource Center (DC PIRC). Supported by the US Department of Education, with additional funding from the Community Foundation of the National Capital Region, DC PIRC is the only one-stop shop in the District of Columbia for resources on parent involvement in the education of their children.  Members of the community can become involved as a parent, facilitator, intern, volunteer, or donor.

Language Services

The Language Services Program at MCS provides oral interpretation and written translation services in 21 languages, and trains bilingual community members to be professional interpreters. MCS's clients range from local organizations to heads of state. The program provides one-on-one interpretation for members of the community and simultaneous interpretation following the UN model for meetings and more formal events.  Members of the community can become involved as an oral interpreter, translator, intern, volunteer, or donor.

Youth PeaceMakers

The Youth PeaceMakers Program harnesses the energy, idealism, and creativity of area youth to solve community problems and to develop their basic skills, leadership potential, and capacity for civic engagement. In addition, the program encourages youth to explore various paths to academic and professional success.  Members in the community can become involved as a participating youth, volunteer, or donor.

Facilitation and Mediation

MCS's formidable expertise in facilitation and mediation exists to address community issues, and is an integral part of all its programs. MCS services have been critical in fostering unity among divided groups of people, as facilitation and mediation contribute to deep processes and sustained dialogue.  Members in the community can become involved as a volunteer or donor for this program.
