Early Childhood Transition Week
The first
letter of your child's last
name
Will determine
which days of the first week your child should
attend school. Children with a last name
beginning with the letters A-K will attend
school on Monday and Tuesday. Children
with a last name beginning with the letters L-Z
will attend school on Wednesday and
Thursday. All children will attend school
together on Friday, August 27th. Monday
through Friday of the first week of school will
be full school days from 8:45 am - 3:15
pm.
Families Are
Welcome
But families
are not expected to stay with their child
during this first week of school.
The transition from home to school is a major
milestone in a child's life and their ability
to adjust can impact their future academic
performance. During DCPS' transition
week, a parent can arrange for an
individual meeting with their child's
teacher to discuss goals and expectations for
the year and to begin building the foundation
for a strong parent-teacher relationship.
Family
Orientation
Night
Parents will
also have the opportunity to learn about
ways in which they can be an active
participant in their child's classroom and
support the school. Contact your child's
school to find out when the school's Family
Orientation Night is scheduled. For more
information about DCPS' transition week, please
contact the DC Public School's Critical
Response Team at 202-478-5738. Assistance
will be available in Spanish, French, Chinese,
Vietnamese and Amharic.
