Advancing progressive language laws in DC
MCS contributed to create one of the most progressive language access laws in the US. MCS' role in the coalition is to advocate for the rights of individuals for access to services without facing language barriers. MCS strives to insure the language rights of the DC community are not violated and to raise awareness about these rights.
Through the language access coalition, MCS:
*Participates in monthly meetings
*Organizes and prepares public witness for Government Oversight Hearings
*Provides technical assistance with expertise on the DC Language Access Act - its regulations and amendments - in collaboration with the Office of Human Rights
*Participates in hearing and discussions of Language Access Plans developed by DC goverment and community agencies
*MCS participates as an ambassador and advocate in the WMATA language access implementation meetings
